All Aboard?

President Trump has officially founded his Board of Peace, but several nations aren’t getting on board. 

The Board of Peace was initially proposed to supervise the Gaza ceasefire, but at the World Economic Forum yesterday, Trump expressed plans to use the board beyond Gaza, calling it “one of the most consequential bodies ever created.” Trump, who will chair the board and have veto power, said he wants to work “with the United Nations” to tackle geopolitics, and invited dozens of countries to join. 

More than 20 nations—including Turkey, Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Indonesia—signed the founding charter. Other world powers, including Russia, are still on the fence. Several E.U. allies (think: France, the U.K.) declined to sign, expressing concern that the board would “raise broader issues,” and may compete with the U.N., not collaborate.
