Storm Surge

On September 14, we warned that a quiet start to hurricane season doesn’t guarantee a quiet end... Well, enter: Hurricane Isaias (ees-ah-EE-ahs).

The first hurricane of the 2026 Atlantic season spun up Wednesday and is expected to make landfall later today or tomorrow morning, threatening Mississippi, Alabama, and the Florida Panhandle. The National Hurricane Center predicted it’d peak as a Category 2 hurricane last night, weakening slightly before coming ashore. (Track the storm’s path here.)

The dip is unlikely to blunt its impact. Flash flooding, damaging wind gusts, storm surges, and isolated tornadoes could impact more than 400 miles of coast between southern Louisiana and the Sunshine State.

Alabama and Florida declared states of emergency, with coastal communities issuing evacuation orders, leaving the status of tomorrow’s Alabama-Georgia SEC showdown (and President Trump’s planned attendance) uncertain and forcing College GameDay to move inside. (Check your game’s status).

PRAY WITH US
God of Glory, the groaning elements are conspiring against us. Those who watch the horizon are running for cover as the deluge draws near. Shelter them as they brace for the worst, O God Our Refuge. Fortify the Gulf Coast to meet the moment. Let resources multiply and communication flow freely. Open paths for evacuation and empty the path of this storm. May officials work efficiently and effectively, and may the church be a hiding place for the vulnerable. Shelter them as we brace for the worst, O God Our Refuge. Amen. (read full prayer)
