QUOTE OF THE DAY
“The Bible is one of the greatest blessings bestowed by God on the children of men. It has God for its author; salvation for its end, and truth without any mixture for its matter. It is all pure.”

Storm Surge

On September 14, we warned that a quiet start to hurricane season doesn’t guarantee a quiet end... Well, enter: Hurricane Isaias (ees-ah-EE-ahs).

The first hurricane of the 2026 Atlantic season spun up Wednesday and is expected to make landfall later today or tomorrow morning, threatening Mississippi, Alabama, and the Florida Panhandle. The National Hurricane Center predicted it’d peak as a Category 2 hurricane last night, weakening slightly before coming ashore. (Track the storm’s path here.)

The dip is unlikely to blunt its impact. Flash flooding, damaging wind gusts, storm surges, and isolated tornadoes could impact more than 400 miles of coast between southern Louisiana and the Sunshine State.

Alabama and Florida declared states of emergency, with coastal communities issuing evacuation orders, leaving the status of tomorrow’s Alabama-Georgia SEC showdown (and President Trump’s planned attendance) uncertain and forcing College GameDay to move inside. (Check your game’s status).

PRAY WITH US
God of Glory, the groaning elements are conspiring against us. Those who watch the horizon are running for cover as the deluge draws near. Shelter them as they brace for the worst, O God Our Refuge. Fortify the Gulf Coast to meet the moment. Let resources multiply and communication flow freely. Open paths for evacuation and empty the path of this storm. May officials work efficiently and effectively, and may the church be a hiding place for the vulnerable. Shelter them as we brace for the worst, O God Our Refuge. Amen. (read full prayer)

Here’s a look at this year’s laureates:

CHRISTIAN PERSPECTIVE
Nobel Prizes celebrate the brightest minds and most impactful peacemakers among us. As we honor these laureates, may we also celebrate the God who created their minds and hearts, and the fields in which they labor.

“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For everything was created by him, in heaven and on earth, the visible and the invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through him and for him.”
Colossians 1:15-16 (CSB) (read full passage)

The Happiest Place on Turf

Mickey Mouse, Simba, and Dory are getting some new teammates…

Disney announced a deal Wednesday to stream two Monday Night Football matchups this fall and Super Bowl LXI on Valentine’s Day. As part of ESPN’s first-ever broadcast of the big game, Disney+ will bring the U.S.’s most-watched annual event to 55+ international markets. Streamers can choose the standard ESPN/ABC booth with Joe Buck and Troy Aikman or ESPN Deportes’ Spanish broadcast.

Meanwhile, October baseball’s rounding second. The Rays swept the Yankees after a fan-interference call overturned a would-be game-tying homer in Game 3 (see the spectators swipe the ball), keeping the Yanks championship-free since 2009. They’ll face the winner of tomorrow’s Cleveland-Chicago Game 5 in the ALCS. The Dodgers and Brewers advanced to set up a rematch of last year’s NLCS.

Verse to consider when you’re delighting in the games, devouring a good meal, or delivering on a job well done… “Let the whole earth shout triumphantly to the LORD! Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and bless his name. For the LORD is good, and his faithful love endures forever; his faithfulness, through all generations.”
Psalm 100:1, 4-5 (CSB) (read full passage)

IN OTHER BREWS…

Brent crude oil went 📈📉 yesterday. Ship attacks near the Strait of Hormuz and Hurricane Isaias threatening Uncle Sam’s offshore production had oil prices topping $105/barrel before retreating a little when President Trump announced the U.S. wouldn’t attack Iran before midterms. #47 said “we are having productive discussions” with Iran and “record numbers of barrels” were flowing through the Strait.

NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani (D) drew backlash from both sides on Wednesday, the third anniversary of Hamas’ attack on Israel. Mamdani issued a statement calling the attack a “horrific war crime,” while dedicating much of the release to accusing Israel of “ongoing genocide,” which Israel denies. Later, he attended an Israelis for Peace vigil, prompting pro-Palestinian protesters to call him a “sellout.” (See all that’s happened since the attacks.)

The FBI foiled a Mall of America terrorist plot Tuesday, arresting an 18-year-old Minnesota man after an agent posing as ISIS sold him an AK-47. Tracked for ~2 years after he discussed joining Somalia’s al-Shabaab with an informant, the U.S.-born teen of Somali descent allegedly planned to kill “30 to 60” mallgoers, citing the mall’s Jewish ownership as motive.

Christa Pike regained consciousness Tuesday after surviving two lethal injection doses. Pike’s lawyers, told she was brain-dead Monday, were surprised when she woke up. They said she has pneumonia, can’t swallow, and her arms and hands are “tremendously swollen.” Meanwhile, SCOTUS declined to halt a Texas man’s execution despite concerns Pike’s case raised. He was pronounced dead Wednesday.

The White House announced Wednesday that 70M American children are now enrolled in Trump Accounts, including 60M auto-enrolled on October 1. The Trump Admin said $2.2B has been deposited since July 4. Kids born 2025-2028 get a one-time $1,000 birthday present contribution from Uncle Sam, and some kids 10 and under qualify for a $250 Dell Foundation deposit. (Learn if your kids qualify and how to claim their account here.)

Who Our Team is Praying for This Month
The vulnerable, by name, with this free prayer calendar*

The world’s brokenness can feel overwhelming. I believe that prayer is powerful, but it's hard to know where to start sometimes.

Compassion's free prayer calendar helps me focus on one thing at a time and picture real people facing real challenges who can benefit from Jesus' love and Compassion's ministry. With specific needs named, the whole TPO team lifts them up in our weekly prayer meeting.

It feels personal, and like something I can actually do.

Today, we’re praying for Deyling, Carolina, and Maricela, who serve children in a rural Nicaraguan Compassion center. It costs nothing to join us! Download this month’s prayer calendar.

What I’m Never Settling For Again
Low-quality seafood, thanks to Wild Alaskan*

I’ve been making a purposeful effort to cook more seafood for my fam because I know it’s packed with nutrients like omega-3s. But finding quality seafood in a landlocked state is a feat.

That’s why I order from Wild Alaskan. With my first box, delivered right to my door, one thing became obvious: not all fish is the same! Theirs is 100% wild-caught, never farmed, frozen right off the boat, and comes perfectly portioned. So, it’s delicious and super easy to have a quick, nutritious dinner (like our recent Coho Salmon).

Get seafood you can trust. Use code TPO for $35 off your first order.
