Watch a book get written in real time

Hey!

Most books show up finished. You never see the version where the author had a bad idea, wrote 2,000 words on it, and cut the whole thing on a Tuesday.

I'm doing the opposite. Every Sunday, I send out 300-500 words of the book I'm currently writing—the draft, not the polished version. Then I cut/add/revise based on what readers send back.

The book is Broken News: Five Practices for Preserving Peace and Hope Amid Loud and Constant Headlines. Tyndale is publishing it in the fall of 2027, right as election news starts getting (really) loud. It's about how Christians can stay informed without getting anxious, angry, or swallowed by it.

There are 65,000 people watching it get built. It's a strange way to write a book. It's also making it a lot better!

Here's how it works; Every Sunday, in a newsletter called News Health:

  1. Read the excerpt (~2 minutes)
  2. Hit reply if something strikes you—confusing, wrong, or actually helpful (~1 minute)
  3. Watch it change

No obligation to reply. Plenty of people just read. But I read every reply, and each one shapes the manuscript.

Yes, Let Me Watch

Hit that button, and I'll send the passage I'm working on right now, then another on Sunday.
