Apple is experiencing some Ternover.

The tech giant’s CEO Tim Cook officially passed his title to John Ternus yesterday (read Cook’s parting message). Cook’s 15-year tenure saw milestones like Apple becoming the first publicly traded U.S. company to hit a $1T market cap and the launch of products like the Apple Watch, AirPods, and Apple Pay.

Ternus, the former senior VP of hardware engineering, is tasked with leading Apple into the AI era, where it’s widely viewed as playing catch-up. Apple has seen top talent leave for competitors like Google and OpenAI, but is rolling out an AI-powered Siri next week at its annual iPhone pageant. Also expected: a foldable iPhone.

Cook’s not leaving Apple, just the core-ner office. He’ll stick around to serve as Apple’s executive chairman and to manage the company’s geopolitical relationships.
