Two U.S. Representatives’ seats are heating up over separate corruption allegations.

On Tuesday, the House passed a resolution rebuking Representative Jesús “Chuy” García (D-IL) for allegedly “undermining the process of a fair and free election” with his controversially timed retirement. García filed for reelection last month but exited the race less than two weeks later. His chief of staff—now the only Democrat on the primary ballot—filed to run hours before the deadline.

Democrats were split over the issue: Representative Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-WA) introduced the resolution, while dissenting Dems called García an “icon.”

On Wednesday, Representative Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-FL) was indicted by the Justice Department for allegedly laundering $5M in FEMA funds to support her 2021 congressional campaign. Cherfilus-McCormick, who faces up to 53 years in prison if convicted, called the indictment “an unjust, baseless, sham.”
