Big Games

It’s a big week for American sports—on and off the field.

Baseball is back: MLB’s 2026 season opens tonight with the Giants hosting the Yankees at Oracle Park—the first MLB game to air on Netflix—followed by a 14-game Opening Day slate starting tomorrow (see the schedule).

Meanwhile, March Madness rolls into the Sweet 16 this week. In the men’s bracket, #9 Iowa knocked out #1 Florida; Arizona, Michigan, and Duke are the remaining top seeds. On the women’s side, all four 1-seeds cruised through, while #10 Virginia pulled the tournament’s biggest upset, taking down #2 Iowa in double OT.

Off the court, Senators Schiff (D-CA) and Curtis (R-UT) introduced the “Prediction Markets Are Gambling Act” Monday, which would ban futures-betting platforms like Kalshi and Polymarket from accepting sports bets through a federal regulatory loophole.

CHRISTIAN PERSPECTIVE
Sports are fun and a great diversion but can also become an obsession. Keep your affections with Jesus, allow your hobbies to be hobbies, and keep everything in its proper place.

“Turn your eyes upon Jesus / Look full in his wonderful face / And the things of earth will grow strangely dim / In the light of his glory and grace.”
Helen H. Lemmel, 1918 (Scriptural basis: Hebrews 12:2)
