Social Disservices?

Several longtime fraud scandals targeting Minnesota’s social services have reached a tipping point.

Reported corruption schemes—including at a children’s food distribution nonprofit, a program for seniors with disabilities, and services for children with autism—have allegedly totaled hundreds of millions in stolen funds. Dozens of people have been charged with fraud, and some have been accused of funneling funds to al-Shabaab, an Islamic Somali terrorist organization, which they deny.

In a recent Truth Social post, President Trump blamed “Somali gangs” for “terrorizing” Minnesota, and blamed the Land of 10,000 Lakes’ Democratic Governor Tim Walz—who’s up for reelection next year—for allowing the scandals to fester.

House Republicans have opened an investigation into Walz’s handling of the issue, while the Treasury is probing whether money was actually sent to terrorists. Walz says he “welcomes” the investigations. 

Verse to consider whether it’s the sins of others or our own that come to light… “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God; they are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. God presented him as the mercy seat by his blood, through faith, to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his restraint God passed over the sins previously committed. God presented him to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so that he would be just and justify the one who has faith in Jesus.”
