Shots Fired at Correspondent’s Dinner

A lone gunman rushed the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner Saturday night, firing shots in the lobby of the Washington Hilton hotel.

The suspect ran past Secret Service security barricades, shooting one agent in his bulletproof vest before being tackled outside the event ballroom. Agents covered President Trump on stage, then escorted him, First Lady Melania, and cabinet members to safety, while guests took cover under tables. 

The agent who was shot has been released from the hospital; no one else was injured.  

Trump praised law enforcement’s quick response and suggested the event may resume later that night, before officials announced it was scrapped and will be rescheduled within 30 days. The suspect, a 31-year-old man, is expected in court today. Acting AG Blanche said preliminary reports suggest he was “likely” targeting President Trump.
