Four Gavels

With its term ending in early July, SCOTUS began emptying its desk.

Yesterday, the court ruled 6-3 to:

• Clear the way for the president to end Temporary Protected Status (allowed migrants who were deemed unable to safely return home to stay in the U.S.) for ~350,000 Haitians and ~6,100 Syrians;
• re-allow the turning away of asylum seekers at the border. Unusually, Justice Sotomayor read her dissent from the bench, prompting a verbal rebuttal from Justice Alito;
• and strike down Hawaii's “vampire rule” (which required concealed-carry holders to get permission to bring firearms into public businesses), affecting four states with similar laws.

It also sided with Roundup-maker Bayer in a 7-2 decision to block state lawsuits over failure to warn of glyphosate's alleged cancer risks because the EPA never required such a label.
