You made it!
We summarize the biggest headlines 3x per week (not 24/7) with reminders to stay focused on eternity. Below is a walkthrough of what a typical newsletter looks like.
(Please keep your hands and feet inside the ride at all times.)
VERSE OF THE DAY
“Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”
Joshua 1:9
ESPRESSO SHOTS
STORY SAMPLE
Pink Slip
From August 27, 2025
President Trump is saying “you’re fired” to Governor Lisa Cook over fraud allegations.
While it has never happened, the president is allowed to remove a Fed governor “for cause.” Trump, who has expressed repeated displeasure over unchanged interest rates, says it’s be-cause of mortgage fraud. Her termination letter (read it here) states Cook “may have made false statements on one or more mortgage agreements.”
Cook, appointed by former President Biden, has lawyered up, arguing that Trump “has no authority” to issue a pink slip and saying she will “continue to carry out” her duties. If her firing stands, Trump can appoint a more dovish (think: willing to cut rates) replacement.

Verse to consider whether your job security feels ironclad or a little iffy… “The person who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence indeed is the LORD, is blessed. He will be like a tree planted by water: it sends its roots out toward a stream, it doesn’t fear when heat comes, and its foliage remains green. It will not worry in a year of drought or cease producing fruit.”
Jeremiah 17:7-8 (CSB) (read full passage)
IN OTHER BREWS…
In Other Brews stories are super short and make sure you’re not the last to hear about something! Think of them like headlines, with just a tiny bit of added detail.
The goal of The Pour Over is to cover major U.S. news, the same news your friends and co-workers will be talking about, while pointing you towards Christ. We are Christians who report the news, not reporters of “Christian news.” You can read more about how (and why) we select stories here.
Don’t look to us for profound wisdom. We likely learned about these events less than four hours before we wrote them… not ex actly enough time for meaningful prayer and reflection. Instead, we focus our Christian commentary on four foundational principles that we, ourselves, often lose sight of when not constantly reminded. Learn more here.
If you love a text, hate an text, or think we’re spewing heresy… email us at news@thepourover.org. We get it wrong sometimes (see our past mistakes and corrections here) and highly value our readers’ feedback.
Here are some quick answers to the most common questions we get. First, yes. The Pour Over really is free, and always will be. Second, you can find us in your inbox on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Third, we love texts, but you can also get our newsletter sent straight to your inbox and find our podcast—it’s the newsletter, but for your ears—on Apple Podcasts and Spotify. WHIPPED CREAM ON TOP
Here, we share something fun—like a GIF or video—to top off your news. It’s usually random and unrelated to the rest of the newsletter, but it makes us smile. For instance, do you like optical illusions…?
TPO PICKS
We love and actually use all of the products we recommend.
How do we choose our sponsors? Easy, we ask ourselves “would I recommend this to a loved one?” (Learn more here.) Below are a couple examples of our faves…
What We’re Drinking
LMNT*
I’m really, really trying to avoid the mid-afternoon crash. Recently, I read an article by LMNT founder Robb Wolf on the best way to caffeinate. One of his suggestions was to… gulp… wait for an hour after waking up.
So, I’ve been trying it. Instead of coffee first thing, I drink LMNT (my current favorite is Raspberry Salt) to give me a replenishing boost after a dehydrating slumber…. And I’m actually noticing a difference! I feel confident with LMNT’s science-backed electrolyte ratio and zero-sugar formula added to my daily routine.
Join my experiment! TPO readers get eight single-serve packs free with any purchase, and make sure to try LMNT Sparkling—16 ounces of sparkling, refreshing electrolyte water.

What We’re Using
The Dwell App*
I listened to 11 chapters of the Bible on Saturday… almost by accident.
While leaving the house to walk the dog, I opened up Dwell. I listened to the Book of Mark, read by Austin, at 1.25x speed, with soft piano and cello in the background. I turned it off after making coffee and breakfast, 11 chapters later.
Listening to the Bible can’t completely replace time with a pen and physical pages, but Dwell has been the simplest way for me to spend prolonged time with the Word. For those of you looking to build a habit of reading the Bible… I highly recommend Dwell.
